Hunterdon Regional Cancer Center Encourages Women to Schedule a Mammogram

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month…The Hunterdon Regional Cancer Center wants you to be an advocate for Breast Cancer Awareness.  Getting a mammogram is an important step women can take to protect their health.  The best protection is early detection.  Help spread the word.  Encourage your mother, sisters, daughters, grandmothers, aunts, co-workers, neighbors and friends to schedule their mammogram.  

Breast Screening Guidelines for Women:

• Clinical breast examinations every 1-3 years from age 25-39, then annually from age 40 on. 
• Begin annual screening mammography at age 40 years. 
• Monthly self breast exams starting at age 18 years old, a week after their period when hormones are lowest. Women should be familiar with how their breasts normally look and feel and should report any changes to their health care provider.
