Informational Message on Change Healthcare Letter

You may have received a "Notice of Data Breach" from Change Healthcare.  We hope the following information helps clarify what happened and what you should do.

Who is Change Healthcare?

Change Healthcare is a large, national company whose technology platform is used by most major insurance companies to support many of their transactions including electronic prescriptions, physician and hospital payment transactions, verification of insurance eligibility, and prior authorization requests to name a few.  In fact, Change Healthcare is so large and its technology platform so vast that in 2023 it reportedly touched 1 in 3 patient records nationally and was involved in over 15 billion healthcare transactions. 

Why Am I Receiving this Notice?  

On February 21, 2024, Change Healthcare announced it was the victim of a cyberattack.  Change Healthcare provided this notice as it has determined your data may have been included in the data the hackers took and Change Healthcare is required to provide notification to you under federal and state laws.

Is the Data Breach Limited to Hunterdon Health Patients?

No.  As reported above, Change Healthcare is a large, national company whose platform is used by most insurance companies to assist them with many of their electronic transactions. The cyberattack on Change Healthcare impacted healthcare providers nationally.  Hunterdon Health has no direct relationship with Change Healthcare.  

Does Hunterdon Health Know What Specific Data Was Breached?

No.  We have not received any details from Change Healthcare regarding the specific data that was breached.
