Raritan Township residents, Shiven Bansal, age 15, and Sannvi Bansal, age 11, wanted to make a difference and give back to their community. The brother and sister team organized a neighborhood car wash during the late summer to benefit Hunterdon Regional Cancer Center. The team enlisted several volunteers and washed 50 cars on September 14, 2024.
"Since Covid, we saw our parents as healthcare warriors helping sick patients without worrying about their own lives and family. We have always wanted to support the mission and vision of Hunterdon Regional Cancer Center helping patients suffering from debilitation cancer by bringing hope and wellness into their lives. So we decided to hold a car wash at our house. We created flyers and distributed them throughout our neighborhood. Our parents helped to make sure we had the right supplies, but we did all the work," explains Shiven Bansal. The car wash raised $5,300 and proceeds were donated to support Hunterdon Regional Cancer Center. "This day brings extreme joy and a sense of pride in our life with our small contribution to the fight against cancer."
This is the sixth car wash Shiven and Saanvi organized and with the help of their parents, the children created the Shivsaa Foundation. "Our slogan is, building community through giving," explained Shiven. The team hopes to continue this tradition and to host other charitable events in the near future.
