During your hospital stay you may have the chance to meet with a Virtual Nurse using the TV in your room or a mobile video cart. Your Virtual Nurse may help with your hospital admission, explain your discharge instructions, teach you about your care, and answer your questions.

During these visits, your care team can meet with you through a secure video call. With your permission, your family members can also join the visit, even if they are not at the hospital.

What to Expect During a Virtual Nurse Visit

Virtual Knocking

Before the video starts, the Virtual Nurse will connect to your TV or a mobile video cart using audio only. The nurse will introduce themselves and ask if you would like to begin the visit.

Connecting

After you say yes, the nurse will turn on the video. You will be able to see and talk with the nurse through a camera above your TV or on the mobile video cart.

Virtual Session

When your visit is finished, the nurse will end the video call. Your TV or mobile video cart will return to its normal screen.

Virtual Nursing gives you another way to connect with your care team while you are in the hospital. Doctors, nurses, and other care team members can use secure video to answer your questions, check on your progress, provide education, and talk with you about your care.

Your bedside care team will continue to provide your hands-on care. Your in-person and Virtual Nursing teams work together to give you safe, high-quality care.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Yes! With your permission, your virtual care team can send a link via text or email to your family members to join a secure meeting from their mobile device or computer.

The camera resets in a “home state”, pointed away from you when not in use. Prior to turning on the camera, you will hear a “virtual knock,” and the virtual care provider will ask for permission to turn the camera on. The camera resets once a day during the overnight hours. The camera will move during this time but it is not on.

Yes. The inpatient care solution complies with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), a U.S. law that protects patient information.

If you need assistance with repositioning yourself or communicating with your virtual nurse, please use the call button to notify your in-person care team.
