Dr. Hartigan, MD, FPMRS, FACS, a board-certified urologist and urogynecologist with Hunterdon Health, successfully performed one of the nation’s first—and New Jersey’s very first—Glean® Urodynamics procedure using Bright Uro’s ambulatory urodynamic system.
Glean is a specialized medical test designed to evaluate how well a patient’s bladder is working. It helps diagnose issues that cause symptoms such as:
• Urine leakage
• Frequent urination
• Persistent feeling of the urge to urinate
• Difficulty emptying your bladder
The primary goal is to understand how a patient’s bladder stores and releases urine, helping a physician to better diagnose and treat specific bladder problems.
This innovative diagnostic technology represents a significant advancement in the evaluation of bladder function for the estimated 70 million1-3 adults who experience daily bladder control problems in the United States. Unlike traditional urodynamic studies that require catheterization and observation in a clinical setting, Glean enables real-time data collection in an ambulatory, real-world environment—offering a more natural experience for patients while improving diagnostic accuracy, safety and overall comfort. Patients diagnosed with lower urinary tract dysfunction (LUTD) and looking to track symptoms that are difficult to capture during traditional in-office urodynamic testing can benefit from the system’s wireless, catheter-free, monitoring of bladder pressure that is safe.
"Glean offers a more comfortable option for my patients to have urodynamic testing with simple sensor placement and physiologic filling. The process is very streamlined and still provides the much needed diagnostic information for us to discuss next steps in the patient's individualized treatment plan. We are proud to be at the forefront of urologic innovation,” said Dr. Hartigan. Dr. Hartigan went on to add, “This new technology marks a major step forward in patient-centered care by providing a more physiologic, less invasive approach to urodynamic testing. This will improve both the quality of the data we gather and the patient’s experience overall.”
As the first site in New Jersey to implement this state-of-the-art technology, Hunterdon Health continues to lead in advancing care for patients with pelvic floor disorders and lower urinary tract symptoms.
