Hunterdon Medical Center was recently awarded the 2024-2025 New Jersey Influenza Honor Roll because of its stellar employee influenza vaccine program and compliance rates.
“We are very proud that the percentage of all staff (employees, licensed independent practitioners, and volunteers) that received the flu vaccine at Hunterdon Health was 99% in the 2024-2025 season. This percentage surpassed the most recent NJ reported adherence percentage of only 93% and the national reported adherence percentage of only 80%. In fact, since implementing our mandatory flu vaccine program in 2013-2014, our vaccination compliance has always exceeded these benchmarks,” explained Lisa Rasimowicz, MSN, RN, CIC, CPPS, Administrative Director, Quality and Patient Safety Quality Improvement, Patient Safety, Nursing Epidemiology.
In 2017, the New Jersey Department of Health (NJDOH) launched the Influenza Honor Roll to recognize institutions that are striving to promote influenza awareness and prevention within their communities. The New Jersey Influenza Honor Roll is open to four categories of honorees: Institutions of education; businesses; community-based organizations; and medical facilities. Hunterdon Medical Center was one of only eleven healthcare facilities to be awarded and has been on this list every year since 2018.
The flu is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses. It can cause mild to severe illness, and at times can lead to hospitalization and death. While most healthy people recover from the flu without complications, some people are at high risk for serious complications from the flu. The best way to prevent the flu is to get the flu vaccine every year. Getting vaccinated yourself also protects people around you, including those who are more vulnerable to serious flu illness, like pregnant women, babies and young children, older people, and people with certain chronic health conditions.
